How can the government of my country be so corrupt?

I live in Bangladesh and while we are improving economically bit by bit, the living conditions here are still mostly disastrous. The infrastructure of the large cities is awful, most of the people live below the poverty line, it's still very much a misogynistic society with unequal rights and double standards for women and crime is rampant. And why shouldn't it be, with the country's own finance ministers and other corrupt officials transferring millions of dollars of the country's annual GDP to their private Swiss bank accounts? We elect the same two moronic women year after year into power, who are actual convicted felons (along with 90% of their relatives and posse). 1% of the country's population, who became wealthy through underhanded businesses control everything and it makes my skin crawl living here and not being able to do anything about it, being just a high school girl. We do have many good things in this country but money-hungry b******* are destroying everything from our forests to the beaches which are actually tourist spots and earn a significant percentage of the country's GDP. How is a country supposed to develop when it's own government is the root of EVERY evil?
