How can people believe new age spirituality is dangerous? Why fear self divinity, peace, enlightenment, etc?

Can you believe my school considers new age spirituality to be a cult following and does not allow new age spirituality on campus in ANY form? This includes shirts, necklaces of inverted crosses, pentacles, ankhs, etc
